In this course, students will explore the relationship between intuitive drawing and the process of hand-carving in wood. We will focus on the figure of Jizo Bodhisattva for our inspiration. Beginning with a series of drawings, students will then create a clay model, which will be the basis for the design of a wood carving. The workshop will included an overview of basic hand-tools, kinds of wood, and carving techniques. All skill levels are welcome, but this course may not be suitable for young children.
