Jump in!

Welcome to Buddha Eye Zen Community Temple! We hope you will join us for meditation, practice, classes, and community. Located in the heart of West Eugene, Oregon, our temple welcomes all people who are interested in, curious about, or inspired by Zen practice or Buddhism. Maybe you would like to learn about meditation (Zazen), or would like to deepen your study of Buddhist texts and teachings. Perhaps you’d like to find a group of spiritual seekers in a supportive environment, or meet people engaged in caring for our neighborhoods and community. Or maybe you are just looking for a quiet place to sit and enjoy a garden. The gate is open, and your seat is waiting for you!

All programming at Buddha Eye Temple is offered free of charge, including assemblies, classes, meditation, and retreats.

Zazen (Seated Meditation)

The heart of our practice at Buddha Eye Temple is Zazen (seated meditation). We offer an introduction to Zazen every Sunday morning at 8:45 am, just follow this link to register. You will find a wide variety of zafu (traditional floor cushions), meditation benches, chairs, and other meditation equipment available, and you are always welcome to bring your own if you like. We encourage you to sit in a way that is physically available to you.

Practice

We offer a robust seasonal schedule of Zen practice opportunities, from daily chanting services, weekly Sunday assemblies, and annual ceremonies, to meditation retreats and intensives (Sesshin). During our Sunday Assembly, which is our largest assembly of the week, we offer childcare through our Dharma Kids program. Joining us for Sunday Assembly is a perfect way to get started with practice and meditation, learn a little about our community, and ask questions.

Please check out our daily schedule for a detailed overview of the opportunities for Zen practice we offer every day. Many volunteer opportunities are available.

Working with our teachers…

Working one-on-one with a teacher is a cherished cornerstone of Zen practice. At Buddha Eye Zen Community Temple, our teachers are available to meet with you to discuss your questions about Zen, Buddhism, and anything that might come up in a life of practice. Check out our Teachers page to learn more about our teachers, and to schedule an informal Practice Discussion. You can also meet with the Abbot in formal Sanzen. The support of a teacher is a great treasure!
