In a lively exchange with a goddess, the Buddha's foremost disciple in wisdom, Sariputra, asks why the goddess does not use her powers to change out of her female state. The implication being that the highest way is not possible for a woman. In her response, the goddess shatters Shariputra's clinging with a surprising turn.
