Upon seeing the morning star, the Buddha Shakyamuni realized the way and exclaimed, "I, together with the great earth and living beings, at the same time attain to the way." Each year at the beginning of December, we celebrate the great inversion to the deluded world brought about by Shakyamuni Buddha. His exclamation, his first lion's roar, is both reassuring and deeply challenging. Join Abbot Ejo McMullen this Sunday for contemplation on the significance of our mutual awakening.
